Basic Fetal Monitoring

This One-day course provides the RN, or LVN with the skills to assess and document fetal status and to be knowledgeable of the nursing interventions appropriate for the fetal status. FHR patterns are discussed in both the antepartum and intrapartum setting. Documentation issues and methods of antepartum testing will be included.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of the class, the participant will be able to:

Describe the pathophysiology basis for Fetal monitoring.
Identify reassuring and non reassuring fetal heart rate patterns.
Identify indications for antepartum fetal assessment.
Describe appropriate nursing interventions for non reassuring patterns.
Describe the legal issues associated with fetal monitoring.
Discuss important aspects in documentation of fetal monitoring.
Describe terminology related to fetal monitoring.
Identify the risks and benefits with fetal monitoring.
